Fortune’s World’s Greatest Leaders
Taylor Swift didn’t become the highest-paid woman in the music business by accident. Pop’s savviest star has crossed swords with Spotify, embraced corporate sponsorship, and moved to secure dozens of trademarks (including phrases like “This sick beat”)—plus she has proved shrewder at honing a brand in the social media age than virtually any other person or company. And she’s done it without resorting to dumbed-down salacious gimmickry. (Swift, ahem, is arguably the anti–Miley Cyrus.) With 1989, the top-selling album in 2014, Swift’s efforts to ensure she gets paid for her music could have a huge ripple effect on the way artists are compensated in an era of free streaming.

*** No. 1 (1 week)*** "Style" Taylor Swift
Taylor Swift tallies her third Pop Songs No. 1 from 1989, and her fifth overall, as "Style" shoots 3-1. Prior single "Blank Space" reigned for six weeks and the set's lead single, "Shake It Off," led for two. She first topped the chart with "Love Story" (one week, 2009) and "I Knew You Were Trouble." (seven weeks, 2013).1989 is the first album to yield three Pop Songs No. 1s since Maroon 5's Overexposed (three, 2012-13). It's the first by a female artist since Katy Perry's Teenage Dream generated a record six No. 1s in 2010-12.

1989 sålt fler exemplar än Red och Speak Now
After just 19 weeks of release, Taylor Swift's 1989 has now outsold both of her last two albums.
(It seems the pop music thing is working out just fine for the diva, eh? 1989 is her first all-pop album after four country sets.)
1989 sold another 44,000 copies in the week ending March 8, according to Nielsen Music, lifting the title's total sales to 4.505 million. 1989 already surpassed the sales of Swift's last album, 2012's Red (4.160 million after 124 weeks), a few weeks ago, while 1989 now jumps past her earlier album, 2010's Speak Now (4.480 million after 228 weeks) in the latest tracking week.
1989 was the top selling album of 2014 (3.661 million sold that year) and remains the top seller of 2015 so far (844,000). It famously debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart with 1.287 million sold in its first week.
Selling millions of albums is nothing new for Swift, of course. The new twist to her sales story is 1989's sales rate. In merely 19 weeks, it has surpassed the sales of what was her third-biggest seller, which has been on sale for 228 weeks.
Next up on Swift's personal hit list: her self-titled 2006 debut (5.492 million) and her biggest seller, 2008's Fearless (6.909 million).
For those keeping score, Swift's cumulative album sales (including her five her studio efforts, and other assorted live sets, EPs, etc.) now stand at 27.67 million. In terms of album sales, she is the seventh-largest selling female artist since Nielsen began tracking sales in 1991.

Taylor Swift: 'A relationship? No one’s going to sign up for this'
In an exclusive interview with The Telegraph, the world's biggest pop star reveals why she'll always be a worrier, how she wishes it could be 'Swiftmas' every day and muses on whether she's capable of having a happy relationship
Taylor Swift is not only the biggest pop star on the planet, but also the biggest worrier. Right now she is worrying about this interview – her first major sit-down chat of the year. She has just come from a production meeting for her forthcoming world tour, fretting about the set list, sight lines and how to get her piano to the right part of the stage at the right time. Before that, when she woke up, she was immediately gripped with anxiety about something she said last night (even though it was only using the word ‘interjection’ when she meant ‘injection’). ‘I worry about everything all the time,’ she says with a grin. ‘We could do our entire interview me telling you how many things I’ve worried about since breakfast. “The Neuroses of Taylor Swift” is probably going to be the article headline.’
Most pop stars of Swift’s stature pay other people to worry about these things. And while the buzz of activity as we arrive at the well-appointed Beverly Hills house being used by Team Swift for their production meeting indicates that she has no shortage of people looking out for her, she remains hands-on with every aspect of her career.
But then the one thing she doesn’t need to worry about is how that career is going. It is Grammys weekend when we meet, and although Swift is attending rather than performing, she is still going to be the centre of attention.
There are plenty of reasons. She is the only artist ever to sell more than a million first-week US copies of three separate albums – Speak Now in 2010, Red in 2012, and 1989, released in October, which racked up the biggest first-week American sales since 2002 and went to number one around the world, including the UK, where it was the best-selling album by an international artist last year. Its lead single, Shake It Off, was an iTunes number one in 64 countries. She is the first artist since the Beatles to spend six or more weeks at number one in the United States with three consecutive albums (at the time of writing, 1989 is into its 11th week at the top).
IFPI Global Recording Artist 2014
Taylor Swift has been named the IFPI Global Recording Artist of 2014, receiving the annual award honouring the most popular recording artist across music downloads, streaming and physical format sales worldwide.
Taylor Swift released her fifth studio album, 1989, in October 2014 and it sold more than 1.2 million copies in its first week of release in the US alone, the highest debut sales week since Eminem’s The Eminem Show in 2002. 1989 also sold well worldwide, becoming a top five hit in Germany, Japan and the UK, the next largest recorded music markets. The album’s lead single, Shake It Off, was a top five hit in more than 20 countries, from Canada to Japan, and its accompanying video was viewed more than 350 million times on YouTube.
