NEW YORK — Drake is the latest A-list musician set to perform at the MTV Video Music Awards on Sunday.
The rapper joins a hefty list of performers, including Lady Gaga, Justin Timberlake, Katy Perry and Kanye West.
MTV also announced Wednesday that Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Kevin Hart will attend the awards show, to air live from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, N.Y.
Timberlake and Macklemore & Ryan Lewis lead in nominations with six each. Miley Cyrus and Robin Thicke — who will also perform — are tied with Bruno Mars with four nominations each.
Jared Leto, Emeli Sande and A$AP Rocky will also appear.

Taylor, what are your best memories about growing up on a Christmas tree farm?
That I always had space to run and that I had the opportunity to play with my imagination. I also loved that my mum drew and painted with me. I always remember that my parents loved me, and that is essential when you're a kid; they always showed me how proud they were of my achievements. It's also very important when parents put their kids' drawings on the refrigerator (laughs)
What games did you like to play?
I loved to dress up and sing standing in front of lots of people and act as if I were in a theatre; and build a fortress. For me, being a kid was a lot of fun! And I believe that we all need to keep on being kids on the inside and be grateful for all the little things that we have in this life.
How was your personality when you were a kid? We know that you loved singing since you were almost a baby...
I was a very observant kid, and I tried to learn everything that I could. I was a very verbal kid, I was talking before I was even walking. I always wanted to know the "why" of everything, my mum says that I asked lots of questions.
How did you find yourself interested in music?
I was interested in music before I even knew what music was. I started to sing when I was one, two, three years old...and singing was something that I've always loved, without question. I started to act in children plays because my parents realized that every time I could, I would stand up in front of people and sing to them. I believe that acting in those plays still influences the way I plan my shows today, because everything in them is so theatrical and I like to tell a story with characters, and you can see that in my shows.
Which was the first instrument that you learned how to play?
The guitar. I was 12 at that time. We always had a piano in the house and I could play it whenever I wanted to, but I started to sing first with the guitar. I learned to play the 12 strings guitar, someone told me that it was harder to learn with that one, but I kept trying and I made it. When I decide to do something, I don't stop until I get it right.
What role did your family and friends play in your success?
My family has played a very important role, because they have always helped me keep myself grounded and as "normal" as possible. They have helped me so that my priority is to keep a normal life while living in abnormal circumstances. My parents are always honest with me, even telling me things that I don't want to hear and that's very important to me, because if I were surrounded by people who only tell me what I want to hear all the time, I would be living in a world in which I would feel that I'm the only one who lives in it. And I believe that nobody should live in that world.
What do you admire in your parents?
In my dad, I admire his positive attitude and his love for everything he does. He loves being a stockbroker as much as I love being an artist. In my mum, I admire her organization, the way she solves her problems, her compassion towards other people and how she makes everything very quickly (laughs). She can decorate a full house in one week, or organize a party in a very short time, and things like that... She is very good solving problems.
We know that you don't get drunk, you don't have scandals like other celebrities do. What is the reason for that? How do you do it?
My family is not the kind that keep on saying "Don't do this or that"; the thing is that I don't want to disappoint them. And my dad always tells me that before I make a decision about something, to think about whether I would regret it when I'm 80 or not, and if I thought I would regret it, then not to do it. I know that we always make mistakes, we can't avoid them, but the best way to try to avoid them is to think of how I would see them in the future.
What are your three bigger strengths and weakness?
I'm trustworthy, friendly and curious. My weakness are that I'm too trusting, I think about things too much and I get stressed a lot.
What makes you happy, and what makes you feel sad?
The little and simple things make me happy. I like going to the supermarket and buying the ingredients to cook dinner for someone. I like painting, I like making gifts for my friends' birthdays, and I like writing letters to people. I think those things keep me sane.
One of the things that makes me sad is kids with cancer, that usually makes me cry. When I see those kids at my meets-and-greets I think that they shouldn't be sick like this. My day changes, and the way I looks at things changes too. Another thing that makes me sad is when hunters kill endangered species; that frustrates me. When people with tragic come to my meet-and-greets that makes me sad too. One time, someone told me that they had just lost their dad in an accident.. Another time a mother told me that she has just lost her daughter and that the girl used to love my music, so she wanted to tell me about her... There are so many bad and unexpected things that can happen to any of us..that each day we should be grateful if nothing big happened to us.
What do you consider to be your biggest achievement?
Winning a Grammy for Album of the Year (2010). I was fortunate to have won it while being so young.
What is the thing that you appreciate more in a friend?
They have to like to have fun, and they must know and be able to have fun even while doing nothing exciting. They must laugh about the same things I do..and they should be open and honest, because I can't have friends that don't talk about what they are going through.
What are you looking for in a partner?
Right now, I don't know. I thought I knew, but looking back, I don't think I'm looking for a relationship right now. I think that maybe, what I need is to take some time to realize what is what I really want.
What kind of movies do you like to watch the most?
Those that make you think about life, and what life is really about. I like 500 Days Of Summer and Love Actually. I also like historical movies like Saving Private Ryan and Forrest Gump.

Forbes’ Celebrity 100: World’s Most Powerful Musicians 2013
Taylor Swift, Beyonce and Lady Gaga have been hailed as the strongest women in music after being named in Forbes magazine's annual Most Powerful Celebrities list.
Several of pop's biggest stars have flooded the top ten of the list, which was topped by queen of daytime TV Oprah Winfrey who Forbes have credited for her status in Hollywood and social media, despite not earning the biggest income of all the entrants.
Lady Gaga follows closely behind Oprah in second place with an estimated income of £80 million from June 2012 to 2013 as a result of her mammoth 'Born This Way Ball' tour.
“She is still a huge force in pop music. Even when she is not playing, people are talking abut her and speculating about her,” the publication's Dorothy Pomerantz said.
Beyonce holds a firm fourth place, no doubt due to her co-founding position on Gucci's female empowerment campaign Chime For Change, becoming a first-time mother to daughter Blue Ivy and of course her sold-out 'Mrs. Carter Show' world tour.

Grammy-winning songwriter Liz Rose had no plans of being a tunesmith. The former stay-at-home mom moved to Nashville with her husband in 1994, and after her children started school, she landed a job as a songplugger. Later, she started a small publishing house where she and eventually began to pen songs with some her writers.

Rose can make up and sing melodies which she does a lot. Mainly, she is known as a lyricist except with her most well-known co-writer, Taylor Swift.
“I can’t be the lyricist with Taylor Swift because I’m 30 years older than her,” she said laughing. “That would be weird. What I do with Taylor is completely different than what I do with other people, She’s very lyrical. She’s very brilliant. She’d say a line and I’d say, ‘What if we say it like this?’ It’s kind of like editing, but you hate to say it. In some cases it is. We just bounce ideas off each other really well.”
The two tunesmiths first met at a Nashville club when Swift was 13 and had a development deal with RCA Records. “It was funny for somebody who doesn’t sing. I actually did a songwriters round and sang two songs, and she came up to me and said, ‘I really like that song. Would you write with me?’ I think at the time I had “Songs About Rain” (Gary Allan single) out, a Tim McGraw cut (“All We Ever Find”), and another song, “Why I Hate Pontiacs” (Rebecca Lynn Howard), and she knew those songs. We wrote and figured out that it really worked. She figured out she could write Taylor Swift songs, and I wouldn’t get in the way. I didn’t say ‘Oh, this would be more commercial’ or ‘You can’t say that. You want to say that. Cool, we’ll say that.’ I’m not 14. We’re not writing Liz Rose songs. We’re writing Taylor Swift songs.
“I would just help her. We just had a great mutual respect for each other and had a lot of fun.”
Their fun turned into a hit-making factory with the twosome penning together 16 of Swift’s songs, including seven co-writing credits for Rose on Taylor’s self-titled debut album. The cuts included the first two singles, “Tim McGraw” and “Teardrops on My Guitar,” which helped Rose win a Songwriter of the Year award from SESAC in 2007. They also wrote the Grammy- winning Country Song of the Year, “White Horse.” and the 2010 BMI Song of the Year, “You Belong with Me,” which also was nominated for a Grammy.
“We just work well together,” Rose says of her successful collaboration. “She knows what songs to bring to me. The first time I wrote with her I was like ‘Whoa.’ At the time she had songs she had written by herself.”
Her favorite co-write with Taylor is “All Too Well” from Swift’s latest album, Red. “It was more of a story,” Rose explains. “It was probably 10 minutes long in her head. She called me and started bouncing it off me, and we whittled it down quite a bit into a song. It was a very emotional time for her, and I’m honored that she trusts me with her feelings to make sure we get it right because it was an important song to her.”

And yet, she does. The singer follows up herWonderstruck and Wonderstruck Enchanted scents with Taylor by Taylor Swift, a scent which Swift calls “a mix of a lot of things: It’s sweet, it’s sophisticated, it draws you in. It’s really my way of translating classic, yet modern, into a perfume.”
Swift says that each of her fragrances has reflected a time in her life, so this one is a little more grown up. “My first two fragrances were more about fairytales,” she says, “but this fragrance is more about my own style, so I wanted the name to be more personal.”
The bottle was designed to reflect Swift’s “retro with a modern flair” style and features a ring of pearls as a nod to her favorite jewelry. “Pearls are the one fashion accessory that never seems to go out of style,” the singer shares. “I keep a strand in my purse, and throw them on whenever I need to dress up my outfit.”
Ultimately, Swift says, she wants her fans to be able to channel her style wherever they go, with the help of the perfume’s mix of fruits, florals and woodsy scents. “I hope that wearing this fragrance makes fans feel that any look can be classic and chic,” she says.
Taylor by Taylor Swift will be available in Ulta stores and Ulta.com in late June.

There were also artists on hand who are part of the new wave of younger performers taking hold at radio -- Selena Gomez performed, and Ariana Grande presented. What advice would you give them?
I never give advice unless someone asks me for it. One thing I've learned, and possibly the only advice I have to give, is to not be that person giving out unsolicited advice based on your own personal experience. I've always had a lot of older people giving me advice because I'm young, and in the end, it all comes down to who you want to be remembered as. Just be that.
How did you celebrate your victorious night?
We had a giant dinner at Nobu for all of my bandmates, dancers and friends. It seemed like everyone was there. Ed, Selena, Austin Mahone . . . We were all just laughing together and rejoicing in a really fun evening.
How late were you out? Where did you go and who did you hang with?
I flew back to L.A. that night, so I was only out till about 1 a.m. Then I got home, said "hi" to my cat, then fell asleep in seconds.
You gave a heartfelt thank-you to your fans and acknowledged them as being "the longest and best relationship I've had." How would you describe that relationship? And how did it feel to have the opportunity to thank them publicly as you accepted artist of the year?
I loved being able to thank my fans for this life they've given me. Being on tour, I get a nightly reminder of how lucky I am to get to stand on giant stages and sing for sold-out crowds. Now I have so many girls my age coming up to me and saying, "I've listened to you for seven years." It's crazy to me that we've been in each other's lives that long and it still feels new. But hey, I guess that's what real love feels like.

TAYLOR Swift knows what time it is.And it's not just show time, although she is on stage in front of thousands in Detroit as part of her super-sized Red tour.
"50,000 people have opted in to hear me sing about my feelings for two hours," Swift tells the mainly female crowd. "I'm told I have lots of feelings..."
Even with her tongue in cheek, those feelings are responsible for 26 million album sales and 75 million downloads in seven years - each album followed by a tour that grows in size.
It's playing to her fans where Swift is most comfortable. She can't be misquoted by nosy journalists. And she can express her sense of humour to let everyone know the diss-and-tell songwriter is firmly in on the joke.
"You never talk to him again and then you write a whole album about him," Swift says at one point, acutely aware the audience all have different assumptions about who "he" is. And they know she'll never tell.Introducing Arms, a fan request, Swift says "I can imagine it's hard to make a relationship last. I wouldn't know ...".
She ushers Stay Stay Stay in by proudly noting "See, they don't always leave..."
Interviewing Taylor Swift is tricky. She's simultaneously open and closed. Her ability to swerve off topic during a warm anecdote is politician-like.
Personal questions are off limits, in the most polite way.
But when President Obama uses your break-up songs as a punchline to attack his political opponents, you know you occupy a rare place in pop culture.
"It's crazy to take in what's happened in the last few years," Swift says, deftly side-stepping specifically referencing her Presidential shout out. "There's no way to wrap your mind around it, no way to fully comprehend it without changing your own perception of yourself, which I'd never want to do."
"As a writer it's really important I keep my mind in check, that's the only thing that keeps me here, what comes out of my mind. So I spend a lot of time thinking about my perspective, how to look at life, how to stay happy but still feel things. Not protect myself too much but shield myself from unnecessary pain and insecurity."
Swift taps her head and jokes "You don't want to get inside here, it's very complicated".
Some of Swift's best lyrics are about the joys of falling helplessly in love (Treacherous, Love Story, Sparks Fly, Begin Again) but for the world beyond her direct fanbase, she's the bitter ex-girlfriend who gets successful revenge in song.
She doesn't mind.
"Break-ups are hard," Swift says. "And you need music to get through them. I am happy to be your go-to break-up musician.
"People like music when they're in love but they don't need it as much. You need music when you're missing someone or you're pining for someone or you're forgetting someone or you're trying to process what just happened.
"The heartbroken are a special kind of people. When you're in that spot, when you're going through it, I'll be there to hold your hand."

Taylor Swift leads a list of country’s hottest stars set to perform at the CMT Music Awards next month.
Swift, Miranda Lambert’s Pistol Annies, Luke Bryan, Hunter Hayes and Little Big Town are the first performers announced for the June 5 awards show.
Jason Aldean and Kristen Bell are set to host the fan-voted awards show when it’s broadcast live from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn.
Lambert, Bryan and Eric Church are this year’s top nominees. Fans can vote in all categories at the music channel’s website through June 2. Six finalists for top honor video of the year will be announced at the top of the broadcast and fans can vote on a winner during the show.
More performers and presenters will be announced later.
